Aright so I've been working with RAW:Natural Born Artist in Boston and so far so good! I think one of the things I like the best is that I get to set up my artwork with my own lighting and my own prices. I'm able to frame/mat my artwork how I deem appropriately (and trust me, I'm using some bright mats!). Its given me a chance to really work out some common problems galleries face and thus given me some real world experience.
I do suggest checking out RAW. This is an organization that has many different locations through out the US and is just opening in Canada. It creates a community of artists, aka allows for a group of people to network with (which is SO important now a days!). Not only do they put you in showcases, but they will contact galleries on your behalf, incite them to shows, and give a gentle push into looking into your stuff (um, free publicity? I'll take that!). Plus you get PROFESSIONAL HEAD SHOTS and a PROFESSIONAL VIDEO SESSION! They make you...PROFESSIONAL!
I greatly suggest checking them out! If you're an artist in any medium, fashion designer, jewelry maker, musician of any genre, any type of artist they'll be able to work with you! After your first showcase, you get one complimentary show in ANY FREAKING CITY! So like, DC, Philly, LA EVEN NEW YORK!
So yes, to learn more go here:
www.rawartists.org/choco7. That's my profile page where you can buy a ticket to the upcoming "Expressions" showcase on May 19th in Boston's Theatre District. It'll be SUPER AWESOME if you came and would help you to introduce yourself to RAW. Win Win!
